We usually have a mix of teaching and dance party. Often, Ginny Lee and Toby Weinberg teach Telespringar while Toby and/or Laurie Hart play hardingfele. At times we have Magnus Hatlebakk teaching Valdresspringar or Vossarull with recorded music. We also do Swedish dances, taught or reviewed by request, usually with live music. All are welcome; we calibrate the level of teaching to those present, and the experienced dancers are happy to review basics and help new dancers. We ask for contributions of $5 apiece to defray travel costs of our musicians and teachers. Snacks are also welcome.
Saturday nights, usually once each month, from 7:30 to 10:30 or until the last dancer or musician leaves. Also some irregular times when special guests are in town.
Wednesday February 1, 2006. Dancing with music from Toby Weinberg. Telespringar with special guest Olav Sem, visiting from Norway. Starting 7pm.
Future regular meetings this spring will include a teaching of Hambo along with styling tweaks for those who already know the dance, a review of Inherradspolska from last spring's workshop, and introduction to Bondpolska från Viksta. We could all use work on the hambo, and the other two are unique dances not to be missed!
We dance at Franziska Bayer's house, 1343 Mecklenburg Road. To get there from Ithaca, go west on Seneca or State Street. They merge and go over the Cayuga Inlet as Route 79 West. Continue up the hill as the road winds. After the road straightens, you will see Rachel Carson Way on your left (the road to Ecovillage). Watch for a pair of mailboxes on the right and, on the left, a telephone pole with several reflectors nailed to it. Turn left into the driveway by the reflectors. The driveway branches twice; take the right-hand fork each time. Park anywhere along the circular drive in front of the house. Come on in and head upstairs to the dance floor. Call 607-277-6649 for directions if needed.
